Oil gilding is a decorative technique that involves applying gold leaf to a surface using an oil-based adhesive.
The process begins by preparing the surface, ensuring it is clean and smooth. If the surface is porous a sealant is applied. This is followed by a thin layer of oil size which remains tacky for a specific period, allowing the gold leaf to adhere properly.

Once the gold leaf is placed, it is gently pressed down to create a stunning, reflective surface that enhances the beauty of various objects, from picture frames to architectural details.

It is more suited to outdoor use than water gilding due to it's weather and water resistant properties.
