History

Currently hanging in Deans Court stately home in Wimborne, this beautiful gilded mirror frame had been designed in the style of Thomas Chippendale. Decorative details that pointed to this were Rococco style scrolls, garlands of grapes and oak leaves, ho-ho birds and floral embellishments.

Brief

The frame needed extensive work to stabilise the structure, replace lost and detached ornamental details, and re-gild any restored areas.

Treatment

Following a thorough clean, vulnerable areas of the frame were stabilised using conservation materials, and missing elements were carved from lime wood. These were then re-adhered and re-gilded.

Loose and flaking gilding was consolidated and failing surface fills were removed, reapplied and gilded as required. New areas of gilding were toned and distressed to ensure the overall look was cohesive.
